British Airways – Implementation of short haul Basic fare and alignment of Brand Codes

Published on: Dec 15 2017 by Stuart Oxby

Further to our blog article of the 5th September 2017 (here), British Airways has now announced that it will move the implementation date of its BASIC fare family on short haul routes from the original planned date of December 2017 to the new date of 22nd March 2018.  This implementation relates to BA changing the filing of this BASIC fare from being a private to being a public fare.

With effect from this date, agents will no longer need to use an account code (HBOBA) to access these BASIC fares. However, in order to sell the Plus fares an agent will need to use fare families to access the additional fare families on their short haul routes. Agents who do not currently have access to Amadeus fare families should contact their Amadeus Account Manager. For Agents who are already using Amadeus fare families for the Plus, PlusFlex, ClubPlus and Club Flex fares on British Airways, the new BASIC fare family will appear automatically.

The Basic fares will be combinable with other fare types and will be available as half or full round trip.

Agents will need to ensure that they have access to branded fares. British Airways files multiple fares in the same booking classes so there Basic and Plus fares share booking classes ; O,Q,N,V,S,L,M,K  and H.

British Airways is implementing this change as a means of simplifying its range of fare products and being able to differentiate between the range of products it offers.

In preparation for this change British Airways is aligning its brand codes that will be used in pricing entries across its short haul and long haul fare products. Please see the table below for updated brand codes. These will come into effect on the 1st February 2018
